Youth

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.                                1 Timothy 4:12

The youth program of Webster Presbyterian Church is a vital segment of our ministry. During the 10:30 Church School hour, there is Christian education for the 6th, 7th and 8th graders, the Communicants Class (9th graders) and a Senior High seminar.

Our youth take an active part in the life of our congregation. Each year, a Youth Elder, Deacon and Trustee are elected by the congregation and ordained to serve a one year term. Annually, on Youth Sunday, the Junior and Senior Highs combine to lead our congregational worship. They have total responsibility for that morning's worship service including the sermon. Both the Junior and Senior Highs have regular Sunday evening Youth Fellowship meetings which are interspersed with special activities, both of a fun and work nature. For occasions such as ice skating, sledding, and a trip to Darian Lake, the Junior and Senior Highs will band together for fun and fellowship. We also have Guardian Angel and Covenant Partner programs where our youth interface with Adults.

The Junior Highs have their own retreat each year. Their big event is the annual March “Lock-in” when they are each allowed to invite a friend from outside the congregation. and are locked-in the church for an all night session of fun, games and fellowship.

The annual Senior High Workcamp occurs during the Easter Vacation and is their highlight event of the year. 2007 was the 44th year our Senior Highs have spent their vacation serving the less fortunate, repairing, renovating and building housing and facilities for Habitat for Humanity and for congregations in need throughout the greater northeastern U. S. The Senior Highs have a “Lock-In”. and a weekend retreat, often incorporating a special speaker or singer. Occasionally we share with the Youth Fellowship of another area church.

Scouting is an important aspect in the life of the youth of our congregation and of our community. Currently, Webster Presbyterian Church sponsors and is actively engaged a Cub Scout Pack, a Boy Scout Troop and a number of Girl Scout Troops.
