Music
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout
for joy. Psalm
33:3
Music is a vital and active part of our church. It provides an
inspirational expression of our faith, not only during Sunday morning
worship services but for special and social events as well. It provides
opportunities for all of our members, from our very young to our more
senior members, to praise the Lord in song, with bells and chimes, and
with instrumental music.
The Chancel Choir is open to all Senior Highs and adults. The choir is
under the direction of Brian Russell and actively participates in the
traditional Sanctuary service from September through June. For special
occasions and special selections, the Chancel Choir will often be joined
by vocal soloists and instrumental soloists and ensembles. Most notably
during Lent and Advent, they will expand to a larger Festival Choir. The
Chancel Choir rehearses every Wednesday evening.
With the institution of our more contemporary style service in the Chapel,
Jim Hoffman coordinates singers and musicians to participate in
contemporary and less traditional music. Drama and other worship elements
are added as appropriate to expand the worship experience available each
Sunday. New and interested individuals are always welcome to join.
The Children's & Youth Choirs are an integral part of our worship as
well. The Kids’ Choir is comprised of children from Kindergarten through
Grade 5. This choir rehearses on Sunday morning between 9:45 and 10:15.
Our Youth Choir is comprised of 6th - 12th graders who rehearse on Sunday
evenings at 6:30.
Our church is blessed with a five-octave set of hand bells and a three
octave set of hand chimes. The Glory Bells is a bell choir of adults who
may or may not be music readers. This choir rehearses on Wednesday
evenings. Alleluia Bells is a choir of experienced adults and high school
students. The Praise Ringers is a group of Junior Highs (grades 6 – 8)
who meet on Sunday afternoon for rehearsal.
Fortunately, this congregation is blessed with much and varied musical
talent. We are often favored by soloists, both vocal and instrumental, at
our summer worship services as well as other special services. The musical
talents of our young people are evidenced by their frequent participation
in worship services and other special events.
