Habitat for Humanity – Wayne County

The Wayne County affiliate, of Habitat for Humanity International, was incorporated in 1988 as a fully autonomous, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization.

The Board of Directors and Officers are a group of volunteers from many towns, various churches and civic organizations. The affiliate is responsible for its own local fund raising, and supports the work of Habitat International in other countries with a tithe of 10% of funds raised, unless requested to keep all of a donation in the county.

We have, 19 houses built: 1 in Wolcott, 4 in Newark, 2 in North Rose, and Clyde, 2 in Sodus, 2 in Macedon, Ontario, Rose, Williamson, East Williamson and Lyons.

Our current building projects are: 2 in Sodus, both enclosed for cold weather work.  1 in Marion, if weather holds for getting the foundation in, we will be built as weather permits.

Heritage Christian Home, Inc.

Heritage Christian Home is a non-profit agency serving over 1,000 men, women and children with developmental disabilities such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome through quality residential services, day programs and community services.

History:        Heritage Christian Home was founded in 1980 by parents of children with special needs. Their dream was to develop and operate homes with a loving and supportive Christian environment. They opened their first home in 1984 in Rochester. Heritage Christian Home’s presence in the Buffalo Niagara region resulted from a partnership with the Faith Foundation; a foundation committed to providing residential services to those with special needs in the Buffalo area. The Faith Foundation has since dissolved, however, support from its members enabled HCH to open its first area home and continues today. Today, Heritage Christian Home operates 42 homes throughout Erie, Niagara and Monroe counties. In addition, we provide meaningful day habilitation programs, community and clinical services.

Webster Comfort Care

We are a growing group of local citizens who believe in the dignity and value of every person. United in our desire to provide hospice-based care in our community, our role is a privileged one. We believe in individualized care to accommodate the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the homes residents. We wish to embrace their family and friends with love and support that would continue through the grieving process. Partnering with local hospice agencies, we will provide complete, comprehensive, around-the-clock care. Volunteers fill the most critical role, one that does not require a degree or a diploma, but does require compassion and understanding.  If you would like to read more about volunteer roles, please click the link to the left entitled, "Volunteers".

To date, numerous organizations and churches have allowed us to present Webster Comfort Care to their perspective groups.  As a result, many individuals, groups and companies have stepped forward to assume volunteer roles and assist in fund-raising.  Please see "Our Supporters" from the main menu to view some of these wonderful community-oriented Webster Comfort Care supporters.

Webster Community Chest

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

The Community Chest, a 55-year-old organization, is still helping our neighbors in the greater Webster community with the generous help of our residents. Each year the needs of our neighbors are different, but we are always ready as an organization to provide different resources through our Benefits Counselor Mary Ellen McDowell. Neighbors helping Neighbors, the theme of the Community Chest campaign, rings clear each year as your donations make it possible to help someone buy medicine, help with car repairs, or pay rent when an unexpected emergency happens.

Each year the greater Webster community is generous, with businesses, individuals, and school personnel helping us raise $60,000 in donations to help others. The Board of Directors of the Community Chest meets monthly and considers Aid to Organizations as well as Aid to Individuals. The pie chart will give you an idea of how the community Chest donations are allocated.

How We Carry Out Our Mission

We carry out our mission by utilizing the energy and good will of many Webster residents to serve our neighbors who need a helping hand. Volunteers from schools, churches, and businesses give time, food and money to help the Community Chest. The Chest raises money through a campaign in the Fall and we then are able to use some of the money to help organizations who may request a helping hand for a project that helps to serve and strengthen our community.
